Swim Mom Quilt

This quilt was made for a very special friend and fellow "swim mom". Both of my daughters have been swimmers for over 10 years, and any mom who has raised a competitive swimmer knows the commitment and the sacrifice that this sport involves. There is the early morning trips in the dark to the pool, the travel, the fundraising, the volunteering to make sure the meets happen, and of course the waiting around for hours to see your child swim a few seconds (minutes if they are a distance swimmer)!

One of my favorite swim moms ever is leaving me this year as her son graduates high school and moves on to the next phase of his life. I knew I had to make this special swim quilt so that she could always remember the special times she had with her son and with all her friends.

I have had this fabric since the 2012 London Olympics and have used it several times, but this was my first time using a chevron pattern. I used a basic half square triangle block to create the #chevron but had to be very careful that all the wording and swimmers were going in the same direction as I cut. I made a small 2 1/2 border around the edges of the chevron, with a scrappy square border around that and a final border using a water print. There is a #scrappy binding to finish the front and I used a navy blue cotton backing. I wanted a wave pattern for this quilt so I sent this one out to be long arm quilted by my friends at Sweet On Stitches.
